It was good to see Nerf Mods & Reviews get confirmation through a Nerf rep that the claimed 75ft ranges of the Elite line are legitimate, clearing up some confusion caused by a pair of oddly disparate promo videos. Just moments ago, however, I caught a similar video promoting the Rampage courtesy of a post by imodify, and now I've got a whole new reason to be irked and confused: there's no shield.
In the original wave of info on the Elite line, the Rampage was pictured with a newly designed, rail-based blast shield with a frame frame did not drop down below the rail itself, unlike the Stampede blast shield. This would make for a far more versatile piece of equipment because it would be able to fit properly on nearly any blaster with a rail, where the Stampede shield could only be properly accommodated by a small handful. The idea that the Rampage shield was real got reinforced by more recent images of the Elite line, but now it seems to have vanished. With any luck, it will still be offered in some capacity within the Elite line or otherwise (a very similar shield design was also seen on packaging art for a Nitron, though not on shelves), but I'm starting to feel like Nerf is intentionally messing with me. This is a preposterous thought, of course, but those are the most fun kind to have.
I suppose this has been a little rantish and largely devoid of any worthwhile information, so I'll fill in a bit:
Posts have been less frequent recently because I've hit a really satisfying stride attacking the writing that still needs to be done for the Document proper. It is seriously starting to look like I will beat the summer deadline I set for myself in the FAQ for release of the core rules.
Got a few new ideas floating around for accessories. Considering my first for melee weapons at the moment.
The long promised video covering dual wielding should also be available before long. Maybe, just maybe, sometime this weekend.
Also, I really like the use of ambiguous phrasing when discussing when I am going to do things. It does great at work, too. I think I'll keep it up.
Thanks for linking my blog :D
ReplyDeleteI'd just like to point out that if you watch the video closely you'll see what appears to be a Lightning Storm stock in the background when they show the up close shots of the gun; so it is theoretically possible that either they don't have the planned accessories for this gun produced yet, or that they're running the gun without them. The Lightning STorm stock kinda confuses me though...
ReplyDeleteThese are bizarre times, that's for sure.
DeleteI didn't notice that till you pointed it out, makes no sense at all since there's even pictures with the same stock as the retaliator, but in this it's got the lightning storm stock in some shots, and no stock at all in other shots?!
DeleteYeah, I often feel like Hasbro has problems with
Deleteinter-department communication...
Ooh. I've been thinking about melee recently too. Can't wait to see what you come up with; I think I know what I'm going to do, so it'll be interesting to compare.
ReplyDeleteAlso, another interesting note is this is the first time we actually see the elite darts, although it is just a small portion of 'em. They're darker than I expected...
